Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet

A community dedicated to Bitcoin, the currency of the Internet. Bitcoin is a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. You might be interested in Bitcoin if you like cryptography, distributed peer-to-peer systems, or economics. A large percentage of Bitcoin enthusiasts are libertarians, though people of all political philosophies are welcome.

Trying to run a node. Bitcoin Core not working.

So I downloaded the blockchain, and it took several days. Then I put in a little bit of BTC to check it out. For a week straight, it is having problems - stuck on the loading page. Now it's trying to resync the entire blockchain, and it keeps freezing and shit. I WANT TO RUN A FULL NODE AND SUPPORT THE NETWIRK. I'm not having a good experience. Any suggestions.?

There's NO incentive to run a Nano Node. Bitcoin is better! (sarcasm)

What do we hear more than anything from Bitcoin maximalists and BTC enthusiasts criticizing Nano?

That there's no incentive to run a Nano node and therefore Nano's economic model will fail and nobody will support the network...

Oh really? Well, most Bitcoiners don't even seem to know that there's no incentive for anyone to run a Bitcoin node, either. But people continue to do it still! See thread below:

https://www.reddit.com/Bitcoin/comments/7clgcd/eli5_what_are_the_incentives_to_run_a_full_node/

Edit: I should have added that Nano's incentive from a merchant's point of view is to save on fees AND secure the network. Bitcoin's only argument is to secure the network.

List of plug'n'play full nodes (Bitcoin + Lightning) on a dedicated hardware

Here is a reference list of all plug'n'play Bitcoin full nodes known to me, most of them include Lightning functionality as well. Please note that those are for a very specific usecase: namely, for people who want a node on a dedicated device (running 24/7, not interfering with work on their pc/laptop) AND don't want to (or cannot) build their own dedicated node, or just want to have customer support in case things go wrong in the set-up process.
If you just want to run a node on your pc/laptop, it's as easy as downloading the Bitcoin Core software here and let it sync (which takes a while). If you want to build a dedicated device on your own (it's not as hard as you might think!), you can have it much cheaper than in the list below (for $100-150) and there are a number of excellent guides available, too. Most prominent ones are Beginner’s Guide to ️⚡Lightning️⚡ on a Raspberry Pi and RaspiBlitz. If you are more interested in Lightning Network, also check out Pierre's Node Launcher (for Mac and Windows).
So if you are still interested in spending money on a node and saving you the efforts of setting up everything by yourself, here are the options available to you (I'm not affiliated with either of those):

Running a full node (Bitcoin Core)

Hi guys, I am pretty new to the Bitcoin party. I read that running Bitcoin Core wallet will help the network and so I proceed to download install it. Does this mean I am running a full node? Am I contributing to the Lightning Network? I hope I contribute something.
Thanks.

Running a full node. Bitcoin unlimited? XT? Core? Help.

I have a one tb hard drive coming in the mail tomorrow and I plan on using my raspberry pi 3 to run a full node. Now, I'm in favor of a fully dynamic block size. I've done my research, technical and political. How do I express my vote for a bigger block size? Do miners or nodes decide block size? I need to express my vote for a larger, fully dynamic block... and I feel like running a node would do so. Thanks!
