To mine Bitcoin Rhodium you need to set up an XRC wallet and configure your miner of choice. You can choose between Web wallet, Electrum-XRC or Magnum wallet. To set up a web wallet please visit wallet.bitcoinrh.org. Or download and install Electrum-XRC wallet (recommended) for Windows, Linux and MacOS.

Sign up for XRC web wallet if not yet done so

  1. Create an account, with your username, password and secure question.
  2. Sign in and click “Create Wallet”.
  3. Set up a strong transaction password. Make sure you store it securely in a secure password manager of choice.
  4. Copy the seed somewhere safe. It’d be a good idea to write seed on a hardcopy and keep it safe.
  5. Paste it to confirm you got it right.
  6. Grab an address for the mining step. Your wallet is now ready to mine XRC.

Tips for improving 1080 Ti performance?

Hi there! So I've had my 1080 Ti for almost a year now, and it seems like it isn't performing as well as it should.
In a game like Overwatch, I'm getting 130ish FPS even on low settings, no V-sync or anything, at 1440p. I see that benchmarks that people have posted are about 200FPS with max graphics settings at 1440p.
In FFXV, I've struggled to maintain above 60FPS with max settings in some areas, when I should be getting 80-120...
My specs are as follows:
Intel i7-8700K currently at stock, cooled by a Corsair Hydro H100i v2
GTX 1080 Ti, liquid cooled and at stock settings
16 GB DDR4 2400 RAM
3 SSDs; 1 NVMe boot drive, a 1 TB SATA M.2 SSD, and a 250 GB SATA SSD
1000W power supply
144hz gaming monitor
I've noticed that my GPU Temps have gone up lately; it used to idle at around 25°C, but now idles at 37-40°C.
I currently have my Windows and Nvidia power settings set to 'prefer maximum performance.'
At one point in time, I tried overclocking my GPU - and at one point I unlocked the voltage control and may have gone a bit too high. But I hadn't set it like that for very long, and I simply stuck with a modest overclock. But I noticed a few days ago that if I adjusted the overclock, my screen would static for less than a second before returning to normal. I'm guessing this isn't normal? I'm not currently overclocked.
As another note, I noticed the increase in idle temps long before the overclocking.
And finally, at one point I was briefly infected with a bitcoin mining program - I say briefly because it was stopped within seconds by my anti-virus. I've wiped my computer quite a few times so I doubt it's still there, but I felt I should mention it.

My Experience: From FX-8350 to R7-1700

Upgrading from an FX-8350 to a R7-1700.
Just a bit about me – I have been building computers since the mid 80’s. I missed the 8-inch floppy disk era, but came on board when dual 5.25” was considered mainstream and a 10-megabyte full-height HDD was the mark of a power user. The first computer I built for my own enjoyment was an AMD X5-133 (a factory overclocked 486 faster than the Pentium-75), and I’ve used a wide variety of systems since then, including a Pentium Pro-200 which served me well in college and a K6-2 which I took to quite a few LAN parties. While I’ve always had Intel notebooks, my PC’s have been AMD for quite some time now. I decided to upgrade my current main machine, which is an FX-8350 with a mild 4.4Ghz overclock. I was using 2x8GB Crucial Ballistix DDR3-1600 and a Sapphire Radeon Fury Nitro. While I know the R5-1600x would be a better bet for a pure gaming build, I have a soft spot for 8-core machines. I had been tempted to pull the trigger on an i7-7700k for a while, but the timing never worked out. But when I found the R7-1700 at a deep discount and an X370 motherboard on the shelf next to it – I couldn’t resist the siren call of a new build.
Here are my thoughts about the process:
AM4 is physically the same as AM3 from a build perspective, except for the mounting holes. I don’t know what was so important about making the holes have different offsets, but this makes it much more difficult to get quality cooling. Not all manufacturers have brackets yet, and I’m still waiting on Cooler Master to release the brackets for my Siedon 240.
The new motherboard feels very different from my AM3 board. My FX-8350 sat on an ASUS M5A99FX Pro R2.0. It was, for lack of a better word, a very workstation-ish board. 4 PCIx16 slots, 10x USB ports (2 of the USB 3.0), triple USB 2.0 front panel headers (and a USB 3.0 front panel header as well), eSATA on the rear panel, beefy VRM and Northbridge cooling, Toslink output for audio, and so on. The board itself is full of tiny components, support chips, and ports. Granted, many of these connectors are outdated (eSATA and USB2.0), and the PCIe is only 2.0 instead of current-gen 3.0, but there is a LOT of connectivity. Few people paired an FX chip with triple of quad-GPU for gaming, but I know a fair number of people used these for bitcoin mining back before there was widespread ASIC support and back then GPU mining was the most cost-effective way to mint cryptocurrency. Extra PCIe slots could be used for dedicated video capture, PCI-based storage, a RAID card, etc... Having 4 full-size slots allows this kind of flexibility. The new motherboard is an Asrock Fatal1ty x370 Gaming K4. It does not feel very workstation-ish at all. It has only two 16x PCIe slots (and when they are both in use they are only 8x), 8 USB ports on the rear panel, and a much less “busy” motherboard. Very few support chips litter its surface. Instead of a workstation component, it feels much more like a luxury consumer product. This is not a bad thing – just something I noticed while building the system. The rear IO shield is red and black to match its gaming aesthetic, it includes things like premium audio (including a very nice headphone amplifier for the front panel connectors), and while it only has 8x USB ports on the back, 6 of them are USB 3.0 and two of them (including a type-C connector) are USB 3.1 gen2. It includes RGB LED’s under the chipset heatsink and three separate RGB LED controller ports (one of which is used for the boxed cooler), Intel gigabit Ethernet, and dual M.2 slots (one of which connected directly to the CPU). It is very different in “feel” from the older ASUS board, even down to things like a shroud for the external connectors and metal-reinforced PCI slots. I must say, its more aggressive appearance and near-empty areas appeal to me. It does, however, funnel the builder into a particular configuration: limited fast storage through the M.2 slots, slow(er) storage through the 6x SATA ports, all external devices should be USB 3. Personally, these limitations didn’t restrict me for this build, since that was how I was going to set it up anyway, but the fewer connectivity choices might cause some pause for others. The only thing I don’t like about this board is the 20 second POST times. 20 seconds every time. Resuming from sleep is very fast, just reboots are slow. That’s really it. I have no substantive complaints other than that – well, and the memory speed limitations – more on that below.
The Wraith Spire cooler is without doubt the best looking box cooler I’ve ever seen. The symmetrical cylinder look, combined with the LED logo and RGB ring are very striking. I can see why many people have asked to order one, though I think for the 1700X and 1800X they are better off without it. I’ll explain why further down.
Initial hardware setup was very easy. I was able to flash to the newest 2.0 BIOS without any hassle using a DOS USB flash boot drive. The 2.0 BIOS has the newest AGESA code from AMD, as well as support for the R5 processors and better DDR4 compatibility. I didn’t want to cheap out on RAM since apparently Ryzen is sensitive to DDR4 speeds for the latency between cores. I bought the cheapest 16GB DDR4-3200 kit I could find (the EVGA SuperSC 2x8GB), for which I paid $115. While I was not able to get it to boot at 3200, I could get 2933 simply by activating XMP, then manually changing the speed from 3200 to 3000. I then tested it with MemTest86 for two complete cycles, which it passed without errors. I have encountered zero memory issues with these RAM sticks running at 2933. Since this motherboard does not officially support DDR4-3200 at all, I figure this is a good outcome. I am curious to know whether anyone has gotten 3200 on this board – that is, whether the lack of 3200 memory on Asrock’s QVL is a marketing issue or an actual hardware limitation – but I didn’t want to spend nearly double that amount in order to get AM4 verified memory (G.Skill’s FlareX), and 2966 seemed fast enough from the benchmark results I had read.
My old setup had a Samsung 850 EVO 256gb SATA6 drive as the primary boot/gaming drive. It seemed plenty fast but it had become too small for my needs, so this seemed like a good opportunity to buy a new SSD. I originally thought the NVMe drives would be out of my price range, but I bought the Intel 600p 512GB drive for only $10 more than I would have paid for a premium SATA6 drive. Though the 600p is without doubt the SLOWEST NVMe drive out there, it has 3x the read speed as the SATA6 drives, and most of what I am doing with it is trying to get quicker load times. If I was using it for professional workloads (as a video editing scratch drive, for example), I would need much higher sustained write speeds and then Samsung would be the obvious answer. I just didn’t want to spend an extra $80 on write performance that I’d never notice, and the 600p has been an excellent boot/gaming drive.
Ok, back to the Wraith Spire. I tend to have bad luck with the silicon lottery. My FX-8350 was not able to be stable above 4.4Ghz with reasonable temperatures. I was hoping I would be able to get better results from the R7-1700, since general reports indicated that it overclocked well. Unfortunately, it is difficult to tell how good of an overclock I am getting since I can find no good information about maximum recommended temperatures for this chip. Some people say 75c is the maximum safe temp. Others say 75c is a fine everyday 24/7 temp. Others say they are running it at 80c all the time without any issues at all. Steve at Techspot was getting 88c and 90c when overclocking the 1600X and 1500X using the stock coolers and without any instability – were those dangerous temps or totally fine? Nobody seems to know. I like my overclocks to be set-and-forget. I want to get it dialed in and then leave it for years without worrying that it will burn up or degrade or that in this or that application I have to turn back to stock speeds because of the thermals. Since I don’t know what max safe thermals are, I just have to guess based on stock thermals.
For stock speeds, the Wraith Spire does a good job. It is very quiet, and after a few BIOS fan-curve tweaks, it keeps the chip around 35-38 at idle, and around 68-70 on Prime95 (Small FFT, for maximum temperature generation). Incidentally, it also hits 70 if I run Cinebench a bunch of times in a row as well, so I don’t consider the Small FFT test to be totally unrealistic for the load this chip might encounter. From what I can tell, these are good normal temps. I can get 3.5Ghz by simply changing the multiplier and leaving the voltage at stock. This gives Cinebench numbers around the 1550 mark (roughly 6900k levels). Prime95 shows a modest boost in temperatures of 3-4 degrees C, and was stable even for several hours. If I push it to 3.6Ghz at stock voltage the system is unstable. At 3.7Ghz (the 1700’s boost speed for single-threaded loads) it is stable only if I give it 1.3v. While that is a totally fine voltage (AMD recommends up to 1.35v for 24/7), the Wraith Spire cannot handle a Prime95 Small FFT load anymore. I shut down the test and reverted the OC when the CPU read 89c. Given the fact that the Spire was meant to cool a 65w chip (and so probably is rated at no more than 85-95w), this is not a terribly surprising temperature – I wish I knew if it was dangerous. I have no doubt that a 240mm radiator or even a decent tower cooler will be more than enough to cool down my 3.7Ghz R7-1700. I am a little jealous of the people who just set the multiplier to 3700 and are good to go – lower voltages probably mean the Spire would be enough. But for me, it was not to be. I was halfway tempted to see at what temperature the chip would reduce its clock speed, but I didn’t want to burn up a chip I had just bought – might as well wait until I get bigger and better cooling to OC it to the 3.8-3.9 I hope it will reach.
Other than the OC temps it has been smooth sailing. Gaming feels more fluid than with the FX, even in games that I always thought were GPU-limited and/or running at 60fps with VSYNC on. Especially games that are sensitive to single-core performance (Heroes of the Storm is my latest addiction) there is a definite boost in 1% low and 0.1% low FPS. I have been using the Ryzen Balanced power plan from AMD and it seems to do a fantastic job keeping temps low when idle and letting the cores ramp up really fast when needed. I need to test whether the lack of core parking prevents it from hitting the 3.7Ghz boost as much as the regular Balanced plan allows. I think a simple CineBench single-thread comparison will do the trick.
I also tried streaming a bit – and it was able to generate 1080p60fps at x264-medium settings without being noticeable while in game. Later I edited some video of my kids – the final render speed was SOOOO fast. I am, on the whole, very happy with my upgrade. I get better single-core performance, much much better multi-core performance, along with faster disk speeds, and a more modern platform (with RGB lighting, M.2, USB 3.1, etc…).
Now if only I could find out appropriate temperatures…..

New to the mining game and Nicehash, advice please

Hey guys, I'm very new to the game of coin mining and selling hashing power (about a month in so far). I ran [email protected] for years on my previous GPU's and CPU's and I think that's a great cause and use of otherwise idle hardware. With that said, I also like money :) I'm looking for some help in optimizing my system, managing transactions and understanding tax implications.
Background/Specs: -GTX 1080 Ti (EVGA SC2 Hybrid, OC'd a bit, max temp 52C) -Intel 6700k @ 4.5GHz -NiceHash Miner v1.7.5.13 (I tried V2 in Alpha a few weeks ago and had issues) -$0.056 per kWh -Max 500 Watt draw at the wall using kill-a-watt (includes monitor, router, printer, etc.) -Currently using Coinbase as my wallet
When I started a few weeks ago, I was making nearly $9 per day... I know this is due to the Bitcoin price swings and uncertainty of crypto in general recently. I use my PC for gaming and other stuff probably around 6 hours per week and mine the rest of the time. So far I've made about .1 BTC ($260) which I certainly can't complain about.
My CPU is running about 200 H/s on CryptoNight. I tried tweaking a bit per https://github.com/nicehash/NiceHashMinewiki/Notes-and-hints-on-CPU-mining by enabling locked pages but didn't see any bump in performance. I'm only seeing 40% - 60% utilization on cores/threads. As I'm typing this I'm pulling down about $0.39 per day. Any other idea for bumping performance here? My 1080ti is pulling around $4 ~ $6 per ($5.25 on Lbry as I type this). Are these #'s reasonable, anything I should be doing settings wise?
Finally, taxes. I have another job... assume I should be reporting these NiceHash BTC deposits as income. I see Coinbase has a transaction history which shoes my BTC deposits and $ value at the time. What can I write off? Only my GPU was purchased this year, the rest of the hardware was already in place. My PC hardware assets, power, internet, office space, etc. are being used 162 out of 168 hours per week (96%).

Dell system crashing

Hi everyone. I have a Dell system that crashes (force shuts down) when I play graphics intensive games or run benchmark on 3DMark. Does anyone know what can be the reason?
It's a Dell Optiplex 7040 mini tower. I installed a GTX 960 into it so I also upgraded to a new 635W PSU. Since Dell motherboards are proprietary, they use an 8 pin power connector instead of usual 24 pin, because of which I also had to buy a 24 pin to 8 pin adapter from Amazon.
Currently the system specs look like this: Intel i7 6700 @3.4GHz 16GB 2166MHz DDR4 RAM 1TB HDD EVGA GTX 960 2GB SSC Raidmax 630ap-s PSU
I know that temps are not a problem as my CPU peaks at 65 degrees and GPU at 70 when a crash occurs. I've seen a crash with GPU temp at even 56.
The mobo uses only two 12V pins and the 5V stand by, no other 5V or 3.3V ones. This effectively makes the whole system run on only the 12V rail on the PSU, which is capable of supplying 576W. I calculated the max that the system can pull to be only around 275W. I don't know for sure if the PSU is an issue though. The system did not crash when I tried mining bitcoin gold. It only does so when a graphics intensive app is run for about 5-10 min.
I think I'm the only person to have this issue. Either it's really deep issue or a really dumb one. Can you guys suggest something?

(Dummies Guide) How to simultaneously run multiple instances of cgminer to control different GPUs whilst using BAMT.

In cgminer you cannot specify multiple values for gpu-threads. gpu-threads is a global per-instance setting, not a per-GPU setting. If you want to run 2 different values of gpu-threads, you need to run 2 instances of cgminer.
This guide will help you if, for example; you have a rig in which one or more of your cards run better with gpu-threads set to 1 and your other cards run better with gpu-threads set to 2 (or 3 or 4)
So I'm going to assume here that you're running a rig with 4 cards and you're already set up and mining.
I'm also going to assume that you know how to use nano. So let's say your cgminer.conf has the line "gpu-threads" : "2", Unfortunately your 4th card isn't giving you the hash-rate you're expecting from it or worse, you're getting hardware errors which lead to rejected shares.
(to see if you're getting hardware errors in BAMT, you need to be able to see what cgminer is actually displaying. To do this simply SSH to your rig, log in and type "screen -r". I won't go too into this to much but where it says HW: you don't want so see anything there, if you're seeing anything other than 0 then you have problems with your config. Now to detach from this screen you need to press "ctrl+A+D" this is very important, do not press q!)
Anyway, you know that the 4th card wants to run with "gpu-threads" : "1", but you can't do "gpu-threads" : "2,2,2,1", this will not work!
So to get 2 cgminers running, follow these steps:
  1. SSH to your rig, be logged in, and a super user. You should be seeing this: [email protected]:/home/user#
  2. Type "nano /etc/bamt/cgminer.conf" Add the line: "device" : "0-2", This is saying that this instance of cgminer will be controlling GPUs 0, 1 & 2. Save and exit (ctrl+x)
  3. Type "nano startcgminer.sh" This will create a new script that you will run later to boot up your 2nd cgminer. Now type "chmod u+x startcgminer.sh" and hit enter.
  4. Add your info. below is mine but you want to replace with the settings for your 4th card (gpu 3): (where it says "device 3" this is saying that this instance of cgminer will only run gpu 3 (4th card) and "remove-disabled" makes it so it won't display the other cards)

    Note: Make sure there are no random spaces at the end of any of these lines and also make sure that the I for intensity is upper case.
    Now save and exit the script by hitting ctrl+x etc.
  5. type "screen -ls" and hit enter, you should see something similar to this:
    There are screens on: 4366.pts-1.bamt-miner (12/30/2013 08:00:56 PM) (Detached) 1 Sockets in /varun/screen/S-root. 
    So this is saying that there is currently only 1 screen running and BAMT is using it to run cgminer inside.
  6. Type "screen" and hit enter, it will come up with a load of text about screen, just ignore that and hit enter again. Now you are inside your new 2nd screen.
  7. Now type ./startcgminer.sh You should now see cgminer boot up and start mining with just gpu 3. To detach from this screen you need to hit ctrl+a+d.
And that's it, there should now be 2 screens running.
To check the other screen type "screen -ls" and hit enter, you should now see both screens running. Something like this:

You should still be able to see info for the first 3 cards on BAMT's web UI and in fact I can still see the temp and load for my 4th card.

RX 480 big drop in hashrate - did I break something? (nicehash, daggerHashimoto)

I'm new to mining. For the past 3 days I have been mining Ether with Nicehash and DaggerHashimoto at the expected ~24MH/s, sometimes little bit less.
My reference RX 480 8 GB was running at a full (undervolted) capacity, with an 69C average temp and 71 peak, the fan at 30-50% speed.
12 hours ago, I've noticed that the average USD/day is at 30% of earnings. I've rebooted the PC, it went back to normal. After around 6 hours, a new terminal window suddenly appeared, it started mining X11Gost with some crazy (I think?) rate of $14,5/day. Right now, it's back to DaggerHashimoto with a steady hashrate of 15-16MH/s. Average clock speed is around 700MHz and the fan is staying at the minimal 1238 RPM.
So, my question? Did I break something? Or is it just the reality of the mining and the market? I checked and the relative prices of bitcoin and ether (coinbase wallet) are worse than last few days, but that's my first try at mining and at analyzing any kind of stock-like prices, so I have no clue if that is the reason.
From what I understand the hashrate shouldn't go down like that?
PS I have just noticed one thing. My fan is staying constant, but if I lower the temp limits, the frequency is going down. Lowering to 55C max/target, it goes to 300MHz and stays there. What the hell? Did my fan just give up after 3 days? I used to play GPU-intensive games for prolonged periods of time and it held up just fine. Also, during night, the cold air was enough for 69C with 2000RPM at 1260 Mhz or 1100 with -4% power limit.

[USA-NV] [H] 3x Sapphire Dual-X 7970s and 3x Universal GPU Waterblocks [W] Paypal

I’m getting ready to update my system so I'm starting to sell off some of the hardware I have been hoarding over the last few years.
Full disclosure: These cards were used for bitcoin mining for several months, as such they were pushed fairly hard in suboptimal conditions. After that I removed the stock coolers and had them watercooled with universal waterblocks and the stock heatspreaders over the VRM. That said, they are still in good operating condition. I carefully cleaned the gpu before applying high quality thermal compound (prolimatech pk3) and the stock heatsinks. I have verified they are all working and get reasonable temps (each ran FurMark for 10+ minutes with a max temp of ~70C).

[Help] Looking to get started. Questions and Concerns

So, I'm at school, and I'm going to be in the dorms next year. I mainly use my laptop for my work / play, but I have a desktop back home that was my rig before I came here. I was thinking about ripping out the NVidia GTS 250 and putting in a card or two for bitcoin / litecoin mining. It sports an AMD Athlon II X4 CPU @ 2.6GHz and 8GB RAM with a 650W PSU. I was thinking about putting a 7970 or two in. I know that there are other cards, but this would allow it to fall back as a great gaming rig if mining doesn't turn out. The plan was also to set up some liquid cooling to keep it from running too hot. I think this investment would be around $1500 max (This includes some money for an initial direct investment in bitcoins / litecoins).
I have done a bit of research for the past few days on this, and I'm a bit hesitant to get started. The cost of power is no concern, so I'm guaranteed to make SOME money. Even if it takes a year for me to break even, that's okay. However, I know that a lot of people are saying NOT to get into bitcoin mining due to the new ASIC miners coming out that are going to fuck the difficulty for GPU rigs. I also hear a lot of people saying that getting into Litecoin mining is an alternative due to it's low hash rate requirement. However, won't ASICs also screw the difficulty here as well, despite it being very low right now (compared to bitcoins)?
Last concern I have is that I want to try out litecoin mining a bit first. However, my gaming laptop isn't cooled very efficiently, and it is currently my only machine besides my phone. It has a 7970M and an i7 Ivy Bridge. I did some bitcoin mining just to test speeds, and the 7970M would pull 320 - 350 Mh/s which isn't awful. However, the temps would get upwards of 90C, and the CPU while litecoin mining would get to about 89C with only 1.5 Mh/s. Now I may be wrong, but this seems too hot. I tested these temps against the load from Hitman: Absolution, and while it wasn't quite maxed, it would still run the temp up to about 90C. I've played this and many other high demand games for over a year, and have had no issues. How safe would it be for me to run some litecoin mining on this laptop?
Rundown:
If I'm not paying for power, would a ~$1500 investment in a mining rig be a smart idea for bitcoin / litecoin mining?
Is this planned rig even a good idea, or should I be going for the less available but more efficient cards?
Have I missed the boat entirely and is bitcoin / litecoin mining just not a good idea in general anymore?
Would it be safe for my laptop to run some litecoin mining on it for short 1hour spurts?

[Build Complete] Project Phenom is back with v2 - Modded Corsair 300R

Project Phenom is back, this time being cleaner, better, and faster. For those of you who haven't seen v1 (with the original build log), it is located here.
I spent some time upgrading my GPU's, motherboard, fixing my cable management, adding a few aesthetic changes, incorporating my AC network adapter inside my build, and finishing up my entire battlestation.

Few interesting features:
  1. Everything is linked together with Corsair link. (For those of you who are unaware of what it is, it detects almost every component in your build, and lets you control most of them, while showcasing the temps.) This is provided by the Corsair AX760i PSU + H100i)
  2. I have remote controlled lighting installed. [Ghetto mounted under PSU, cant be seen after side window is put back on, however. Just the IR receiver. ;) ]
  3. LCD Touch screen fan controller.
  4. Multi SD card slot, with front red LED strip control scroll switch.
  5. Sound dampening foam installed where ever possible.
  6. Dust filters on the front, sides, and bottom. + Optional magnetic dust filter for top, specifically for 300R.
  7. Custom cut full clear side window on Corsair 300R.
  8. Custom laser etched name + signature.
  9. Custom designed braided cables.
Notes:
One of the biggest reasons why I have changed the motherboard ( and somewhat ruined my color scheme) is because the UD4H failed on me TWICE. For whatever reason, it was not capable of basic overclocking and the bios had failed on me, prompting me to take apart my build and replacing it twice. Not a fun experience, but now having the asrock motherboard, I have had nothing but a positive experience. In my last build I had the last generation z77 asrock mobo and also had a great experience with it. Not the best looking motherboard, but in terms of performance and features, it is comparable to some of the highest end (and most expensive) out there.
As for the graphics cards change, I sold them off in the bitcoin rush and made a decent profit. Not only for this reason, however. After doing some benchmarking and listening to the users here, I found out my gpu's to be way too close and hence not being able to cool down properly. Luckily I got my GPU's during a sale with all 3 nvidia games each, which I sold for a overall gpu discount.
Finally, those of you who are wondering how I got some cheap components (some free), none of them are used/refurbs. All brand new. Just got them at great deals. I kept this list pretty accurate. Dr Jally or: How I learned to stop worrying and love the ASIC.

I was a late comer to the bitcoin love, I started mining last summer, nothing major, have never had more than 600Mh/s to my name really... but on a whim I ordered a Jalapeno in late august, and then I tried to put it out of my mind as everyone else fought over if BFL would ever ship or not, etc.... I just figured that worst case, the money was gone really... lo and behold, it arrived about 3 weeks ago, let me briefly share a few things, as some of my tinkering and experiments may benefit others:
This past weekend I opened the little black box of mystery and had some fun:
I plugged everything back in, powered up my host... and noticed my jally was just flashing like crazy and my host couldn't see it. uh-oh. I powered it off, back on, and it was fine. Since then I've powered it off about 10-20 times, and twice it would go into "super fast flash like crazy but not work" mode. Simply unplugging and replugging would solve it. I have not dug into this at all, but I think it's failing to init or pass the boot up tests. There's word around town that you can tweak the firmware to push speed further or reduce the strictness of the tests it does, but I'm happy with what I've got, so I'm leaving it:

Other than to change coins or work on my host system (now that it's a raspberry pi I don't think I'll be changing it much more), it's been running non-stop at around that rate/temp since the weekend.
Right now my little rPi host is bashing away, with the jally and three block erupters (I know they'll most likely never reach ROI for themselves by themselves, I just wanted to tinker, but still may add a couple more to break 10Gh total just for bonus points), the jally firmware "upgrade" everyone talks about is really designed for one of the other models (the bigger ones), and that's why I think it reports as "BFL 0h" or "BFL 0d" I assume "d" and "h" are the two ASIC spots on the jally board that actually have chips on them in the jally...
I figure all in I'm looking at around... lets say $650 and 90 watts (max) total for ~8.29Gh/s... The erupters really distort my numbers right now, (without them it'd be more like $350 and 80 watts (max) for ~7.3Gh/s)... but again, hashrate is addictive.
The jally power supply has always seemed to run hot to me, even before I pushed the update firmware, so I may try and find a biggebetter quality PS for it, and more erupters will sadly mean I need a new usb hub, as my current one is only rated for 5v 2A, and it has to be close to that with 3 erupters, the pi, and the usb fan. :/ So I guess I've still got more investment to go, but it's just a hobby, I can quit anytime, right?

Can't connect.

I now have 3 AMD GPUs. An old 5850, a 380, and a 290. I know GPU mining is barely profitable, but I have pretty cheap power deep in south TX, a very efficient PSU, and nothing to do with this hardware.
Having some trouble connecting with sgminer, which I built myself from github repo using visual studio (BTW: have there been any attempts at a Thompson Hack?). I haven't tried any other pools yet, I'm a BTC newb but I remember years ago Slushes pool was around, and I figured I'd go to the oldest/biggest pool to get started with, see how it goes, for a month and see if it's profitable. Anyway, here is the error I'm getting.

My hardware is a 5820k stock and a Nvidia 970 stock. I don't run them at 100%, maybe 85% or 95% max at a time and I stop running them if I'm playing games or video rendering. I usually just run them throughout the day and overnight. I set a temp limit on my GPU with MSI Afterburner and make sure that my PC has adaquete space for cooling. Ninjaedit: in response to "branching into tech fields" what I really mean is that I want this PC to be usable for any use a PC might have. Bitcoin/other types of mining, idling stuff like GomezPeer or [email protected], paid jobs like those of a graphic design company or a group who needs a powerful PC to test their program out, hooking up the PC to the entire house in the future to operate as an AI house controller (temperature, bills, electricity, lights, locks, etc while staying in the same spot and being used to game), I just want this PC to be able to handle the next step of humanity's technology.

Very bad video card problem.

My card is overheating to dangerous levels seemingly at random. It'll idle at 50C and under very high load go up to 75C. Then, out of the blue, it will climb about 1 degree a second until it reaches ~100C and the computer will shut down.
On average it'll happen every couple of days. *Sometimes it'll happen 3 times in 2 days, or sometimes it doesn't show up for 4-5 days. It doesn't matter if it's idle or not, it seems to be a completely random/unprovoked incident. *
I'm not sure if it means anything, but when this happens MSI Afterburner shows:
I don't overclock the card, however I bought it used from a friend of mine who was using it to mine bitcoins, it was overclocked most of the time he had it (~1.5 months).
I have tried sweeping all video card drivers in safe mode using driver sweeper 3 times now. Upon reinstalling CCC I haven't touched its settings.
Card is Gigabyte 6950 1GB.
Any input is appreciated, this can't be good for my card.
