BTCChina lagging both on BitcoinWisdom.com and Bitcoinity - any up to date charts available?

The BTCChina charts lag about 20 minutes at the moment and have been lagging for a significant amount of time today, too. How do you keep track of the accurate current price in china? I have btcchina.com open in a tab, but it is not as easy to use as BitcoinWisdom (e.g. no price in title so you can see the current price without having to open the tab). Also, just having the current price is not as good as to have a chart at hand.

A Couple of Notes on the 2013/14 Bubble VS. 2017 Bubble

I'm seeing a lot of posts comparing the 2017 Bubble to the 2013-14 Bubble. I think the comparisons are fair. However, many people are mixing up what happened in 2013-14 and the timeline. One of the most common mistakes I'm seeing is that the 2013-14 bubble popped due to Mt. Gox insolvency. That is false.
The 2013-14 bubble was abrupt, even when compared to the 2017 bubble. The price skyrocketed from $200 USD to $1200 USD in one month. From November 1st to November 30th, BTC went up basically 6X. Back in 2013-14, there were basically two markets which were getting solid volume. BTC/USD and BTC/CNY. BTC/USD was mostly taking place on Mt. Gox, Bitstamp, Coinbase, and BTC-e. BTC/CNY was mostly taking place on OKCoin and BTCChina. There was no Korea or Japan back then, which definitely played a major role in the recent bull market.
And while Chinese exchanges were creating a lot of fake volume back in 2013-14 through 0% exchange fees, the fact was that China was leading the markets. [1] They consistently held a 10%+ premium over USD exchanges during the bull run. At the height of the bubble in China, before the PBOC stepped in with its clampdown on Bitcoin, China Telecom and Baidu announced support for Bitcoin. It was on the verge of literally replacing the CNY. [2]
On November 30th, 2013, a rumor emerged that the PBOC (People's Bank of China / China Government) was about to crack down on Bitcoin. A mass panic ensued. The price crashed from $1200 USD to $780 USD. In one day. That's a 35% crash in a single day. However, the market quickly bounced back as people argued that these rumors were fabricated. However, this rebound was short lived.
On December 5th, 2013, the PBOC made an official announcement. The government banned financial institutions from interacting with Bitcoin. They also clarified that products / services in China could not be priced in BTC (they must be priced in CNY). The markets went straight down on this news. From $1150 USD when it broke to $540 on December 7th. A 3 day drop of over 50%.
Where was Mt. Gox in all this? They were chugging along, delaying fiat withdrawals. Bitcoin withdrawals were working fine. Deposits too. For much of November and December there was very little noise about Mt.Gox actually being insolvent. The overwhelming market sentiment on the matter was that their banks were being disrupted by the US Government investigations into Silkroad. This was true to a very mild extent.
If you'd like to argue that people knew Mt. Gox was insolvent at the time of the 2013-14 bubble crash, I'd like to point out that Bitfinex basically had the exact same issues arise in 2017. Fiat withdrawals and deposits were basically turned off. Clearly Bitfinex was a different situation in hindsight (we hope!), but initially it was playing out just the same as Mt. Gox. The markets never really reacted to Bitfinex fiat issues, just as they didn't react to the Mt. Gox issues. There was so much money going through Mt. Gox that it had a Titanic feel to it. The majority of people bought their first BTC on Mt. Gox.
The Chart: https://www.tradingview.com/chart/BTCUSD/wlTsEFJ4-Reason-Behind-2013-14-Bitcoin-Bear-Market/
This chart outlines the dates of the key events in the 2013-14 bubble crash. The most significant event in the crash was absolutely the China ban. That is what kicked off the 2013-14 bubble crash, and it definitely had the most profound impact on price. While the Mt. Gox fiasco certainly did not help the markets, it's not the reason for the bubble and should not be quoted as the reason. [3]
So in conclusion, when people are comparing the 2014 bubble with the 2017 bubble, it should be noted that they are very different. But not for the reasons most people assume. They are different because the 2014 bubble was almost entirely based on the Chinese market, and it was squashed by the PBOC themselves by imposing big regulations.
Today, the markets are certainly more spread out and there are less single points of failure. There is no single event which turned the bull market to a bear market this time around, although I personally believe we ran out of gas this time around because of regulation in Korea and China.

Anyone have a clue why litecoin might be going up in value more sharply than bitcoin?

So if things are getting resolved and help isn't breaking loose then litecoin isn't really running any sort of over throw bch/btc race. Just wondering if anyone has thoughts on the price move besides "if bitcoin goes up, everything does" (besides ripple a lot).
Just trying to start a discussion here

Can we please get some order on this sub?
Don't whine about your technical problems.
Keep your questions in the day's thread and don't make separate posts to get more attention.
And most of all don't KEEP POSTING THAT SAME HORRIBLE CHART from your high school economics textbook!
See previous if you are a noob here: BitcoinMarkets is not SlightlySmarterBitcoin.
TLDR: TECHNICAL ANALYSIS OR GTFO
AS for me, I'm still bullish. Banks are open around the world once again. We might be able to see some action from completed wired transfers. EMAs crossed over around 17:30. BTCChina is looking a bit bearish at this moment in time, tbh, but I don't think that's anything to worry about - especially after testing that 300 support this past weekend. We got fresh money and fresh blood waiting to enter these markets.

Monday 21st October 2013

China still growing strong. The 2-month for btcchina.com couldn't look more bubbly if it tried.
As I've said before, I think we're experiencing the beginning of an East/West feedback loop, and the markets look poised to surge. Going to be a crazy Monday (a crazy few days, I'd say)!

Peak Predictions with Market Cap Math

u/pmam made a good point in the bubble peak prediction thread that seeing the peak we are climbing is more about when we run out of steam, and less about just picking a number. So i spent some time looking at the charts of the Spring 2011 and Spring 2013 peaks to see if there were any patterns i could find, and made some very pivotal assumptions. Please take a look at my logic and my math, and let me know where i can improve.
  1. New fiat flowing into the market drives the price.
My base assumption is that when the fiat stops flowing, the price will drop. The point of this post is to determine how much is coming on, when it is hitting, and what effect it will have on the price.
  1. Measuring the historical fiat flow.
I tried to keep it simple, and just assumed that any transactions between a breakout and a high point represented inflow. For breakout points i chose April 23, 2011 and March 19, 2013. These were the first double digit (20% and 13%) moves towards memorable historical highs.
Using this crude method, i come up with 16,666,844 in 2011 on Gox, and $226,066,044 in 2013 combining Gox, Btc-e, and Bitstamp.
  1. Estimating the effect of the inflow on the max market cap.
In spring of 2011, there were approx 7,000,000 btc, which gives a market cap of 224 million at the high price of $32 on June 8. This indicates a cap:inflow ratio of 13.44 to 1. This makes sense, because not every coin is available on the market. The majority do not ever see an exchange, for a variety of reasons.
In spring of 2013, there were approx 11,000,000 btc, which gives a market cap of 2.926 billion at the high price of $266 on April 10. This indicates a cap:inflow ratio of 12.94 to 1, very close to the previous ratio.
  1. Estimating the current inflow.
Using the same methodology, i get inflows of $171 million on btcchina, $148 million on Gox, $123 million on Bitstamp, and $72 on Btc-e since October 19(first double digit bump, 10% on bitstamp), for a total of 551,000,000. I don't think everyone trying to catch this ride has been able to access the markets yet, and i also think that we are about to generate a bunch of press in the next week, so i don't think this half billion is the total inflow. The Spring 2013 inflow was 13.5 times bigger than the Spring 2011 inflow, however, this current one is only a quarter of the duration since the last peak. 13.5 times 226 million would be over 3 billion in inflows, a possibility if we go on for some weeks, but probably optimistic. Half that, 1.5 billion seems moderate, considering we are a third of the way there already, and 1 billion of inflows seems conservative given that we have already seen half that, and we know people are still coming in.
  1. Estimating the effect of the inflow on the market cap.
This time around, it seems that there are more coins in circulation. 1,873,353 coins were exchanged in the 48 days leading up to $30, and 2,154,337 coins were exchanged in 22 days leading up to $266. Since Oct 19, we have already seen 2,245,030 coins exchanged on the markets. This leads me to be conservative relative to the previous ratios of 13.44 and 12.94, and estimate conservatively at 8.66 (two thirds of 13) and moderately at 10.83 (five sixths) for a multiplier ratio.
  1. Divide by 12 million.
There are about 12 million btc out now.
If we assume the conservative estimate on the inflow(1 billion), and the conservative estimate on the multiplier(8.66), this predicts a peak market cap of 8.66 billion.
If we assume a moderate estimate on the inflow(1.5 billion), and the moderate estimate on the multiplier(10.83), this yields a peak market cap of 16.245 billion.
On the most optimistic estimates, 3 billion inflow and continued ratio of 13, the resulting peak market cap is 39 billion.
@ 8.66b market cap, price = $721 @ 16.245b market cap, price = $1353 @ 39b market cap, price = $3250
My last thought is that even if we don't see 1.5 billion in inflows in the next few weeks, it is probably not that long until it happens.
Seeing the monstrosity of these numbers made me nervous, so i cashed out 25% of my btc now, because i can't honestly bring myself to believe this could really happen, and now i feel good knowing i have not risked everything on one side.
So, other than bad news from the senate hearing or satoshi opening his wallet, please explain to me how we stay under the $721 estimate i came up with above. Happy trading~

Houbi Hits 10 Million BTC Volume on Weekly Candle - Is It Fake Or What?

web version
This seems really strange: Houbi has reached all-time high volume. Weekly volume has reached 10 Million Bitcoins. Remember: Chinese exchanges have a 0% fee model, which enables interesting trading behavior.
To compare, this is what OKCoin weekly volume looks like:
And this is what BTCC (BTCChina) looks like, note the reverse trend of their Chinese competitors OKCoin/Houbi,
And now compare with the USD exchanges, here's Bitfinex's weekly chart with volume
Looks a bit more normal.
Now let's look at BitStamp, who has been suspected of volume faking also.
So it seems like Houbi's 10 million coin weekly volume is a bit suspicious in the context of how the rest of the exchanges are doing. But maybe they just have some special customers and are doing really well? Who knows.
What do you guys think?

Fractal Forecast: Bitcoin Markets in East & West Diverge

This chart shows a black VWAP price line along with three interesting divergences in how Western exchanges (Bitfinex, Bitstamp, BTC-e) compare to a sampling of Eastern ones (OKCoin, Huobi, BTCChina).
I will briefly explore each..."

Longtime bitcoin trader, new to the stock market and have some questions.

I learned most of the trading fundamentals from trading bitcoin for the past two years. I've since divested most of my funds to the stock market, but there are a few questions that I can't quite understand as most of my experience is from trading on bitcoin markets.
submitted by wheyjuice to investing [link] [comments]

My 10 year old now understands the bitcoin world market better than the average person.

I've been quiet about the chart on my screen for the last 42 days. I didn't really want to get into the whole thing with him. He's got an entrepreneur brain, and wants to be the world richest man. Many times, he gets wild about money, really excited, and can talk my ear off for hours on end. He's had some good ideas here and there, but nothing we could implement on a limited budget.
So, with the whole BTCChina/ Chinese government regulation thing, I went ahead and did what I could to teach him about bitcoin. By explaining the rise being similar to paying fiat in hopes of getting a better gift card later, he started understanding and smiling. I explained that those who spent fiat when it was up high on the left, now have to wait longer to get the gift card for the original amount or higher. If they went to the store, having spent 120, it is only worth 80 right now. He's watching the screen for a fresh dip down to 700.
So then I went further and explained government regulations against banks. He has a savings account, and knows it is slowly worth a little more. If he were to give the bank 997 dollars, wait a while, and go to the bank to get his money, he'd expect to get the 1000 dollars. So, if he wanted to buy a big TV, and went to the bank to get his 1000 dollars in fiat, that's what should happen. He'd be upset if they gave him a 750 in fiat or a gift card and the police and government agreed it was fine. I just stated the situation as going to get it, and getting something else. He's the one who (other than wanting to jump across the desk and smack the banker) realized that the government should make sure it is illegal for banks to play with his money without his permission.
So, by explaining Bitcoin as gift cards to be used through a web connected device, he gets it. Now he's hoping it get's down to $3 so he can spend all of piggy on it and be a rich man by Christmas sigh

[English -> Chinese] Proofread a translation of my Bitcoin website!

I run a Bitcoin market data site, https://cryptowat.ch/
I am working on a Chinese version of the UI http://cryptowatch.cn/
However I don't speak Chinese. I have just been copy-pasting stuff I find online to do it. There is not much to translate since most of it is numbers, so I thought I could get away with this. But it would be great to get a sanity check.
Could a Chinese-speaking friend help me out and compare the Chinese UI to the English, and tell me if anything is off?
Also worth looking at are the meta description and title tags.
Cryptowatch - live Bitcoin price charts
vs
Cryptowatch - 比特币的实时价格图表
and
Live price chart and market data for BTC-e, Bitstamp, Huobi, BTCChina, OKCoin, and other Bitcoin exchanges
vs
实时价格走势图与股市的更新为如BTC-e, Bitstamp, 火币网, 比特币中国, OKCoin等交易所的比特币行情信息
Any help is appreciated. If I get a thorough answer I may have some Bitcoin to spare! ;) Thank you!

Okcoin is now the highest volume litecoin exchange

Not sure why this hasn't been picked up on yet, but Btc-e has been surpassed by Okcoin as the highest volume litecoin exchange (you can see volume charts here: https://www.okcoin.com/ ). In the last 24 hours for example Btc-e had 495711 ltc volume, while Okcoin had 668694 ltc volume. We all saw what BTCChina did for bitcoin a few weeks back. Well it looks like Okcoin is about to do the same for litecoin.

What is the price of a Mtgox Dollar?

The price of a mtgoxBTC is artificially high because the price of a mtgoxUSD is artificially low (no one wants mtgoxUSD because they have to wait months to withdraw)
The price of bitstampBTC is artificially low because people get their USD out of mtgox by buying BTC and then selling those BTC at other USD/BTC exchanges.
I thought I'd do some back of the napkin calculations to try and quantify the market price of a mtgox dollar.
I'll use the non-USD exchange pair that has the highest volume to try and figure out the true price of a bitcoin.
At btcchina: 1 BTC = 984.53 CNY
Globally: 1 CNY = 0.164 USD
Assuming btcchina isn't having any liquidity problems of their own, the true price of a bitcoin is about:
1 BTC = 984.53/0.164
1 BTC = $161.47 USD.
Let's use the Mtgox and Bitstamp BTC prices to try and find out how much mtgoxUSD and bitstampUSD are really worth.
At Mtgox: 1 BTC = 173.00 USD
mtgoxUSD = 161.47/173 = $0.93 USD
Assuming bitstamp isn't having any liquidity problems either,
At bitstamp: 1 BTC = 155.30 USD
bitstampUSD = 161.47/155.30 = $1.04 USD.
In conclusion,
1 mtgoxUSD = $0.93 USD
1 "Mtgox Buck" is only 93 cents. If you deposit a dollar in Mtgox, it'll only be worth 93 cents by the time it gets there.
1 bitstampUSD = $1.04 USD.
1 "Bitstamp Buck" is worth $1.04. If you help people escape from Mtgox by buying their BTC with USD, you'll get a little more BTC because they are so desperate.
Bitcoinaverage.com seems to be calculating the correct rate of a bitcoin in USD by including MtGox. Hitting the "Ignore Mtgox" button actually over compensates and shows the bitcoin price lower than it really is because the BTC selling pressure is still at the other exchanges.
*I just took the current rates at one point in time. It'd probably be more accurate if some kind of average was taken. It might be interesting to chart the value of 1 mtgoxUSD over time.
*And this is assuming you will ever get USD that you withdraw from Mtgox.

How do tickers get the last prices from BTC China? (API Question)

Hey, fellas.
Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'm using BTC China's API to automate some trades. I was previously web scraping to get the current price, but they have recently blocked robots from accessing their site.
The BTC China API does not have anything like getPrice(), so I've been using the ask and bid prices via getMarketDepth() as a placeholder for the time being.
I'm probably overlooking something really simple, because all the charting websites (e.g., BitcoinWisdom) are still accurately displaying the prices.
Any ideas?
