Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet
A community dedicated to Bitcoin, the currency of the Internet. Bitcoin is a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. You might be interested in Bitcoin if you like cryptography, distributed peer-to-peer systems, or economics. A large percentage of Bitcoin enthusiasts are libertarians, though people of all political philosophies are welcome.
/btc was created to foster and support free and open Bitcoin discussion, Bitcoin news, and exclusive AMA (Ask Me Anything) interviews from top Bitcoin industry leaders! Bitcoin is the currency of the Internet. A distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Unlike traditional currencies such as dollars, bitcoins are issued and managed without the need for any central authority whatsoever.
Hello! Since i dont have much stuff to do in this quarantine I thought about reading into the oldest posts talking about Bitcoins and i found some interesting ones, for example this one about a guy who bought some strawberries for 1.5BTC at the time. Bitcoin strawberries I used a website called boreddit.com to find all the post from 2011 in case you want to find or read about what people was thinking or taking about in those years. Feel free to post some interesting links from old posts here. 😄
PSA: r/btc has 224k subs & in the top 5 Google results for "bitcoin reddit". Therefore not everyone who is a 'noob' & disagrees with you is a troll. Veterans here MUST be kind, welcoming & willing to explain their views or we'll discourage new voices from speaking up & turn this into an echochamber.
We want new voices, we want new talent, we want new builders. Whoever shuts down new joiners with insults or rude responses is making this community smaller, less inclusive, less innovative. Let's not become victims of our own success.
So many mixed emotions here. I've been saving for a house for years. Finally dumped everything into bitcoin just about a month ago, back at 5-7k. Now I have enough for a down payment for a house... after looking at my balance, I realised that this was not something I can afford to lose, so I cashed out. Now ill start over by DCA just a tiny bit every month. So ill still be rooting for bitcoin, just not nearly as much skin in the game. I probably spent hours reading on Reddit before making my investment. Everyone IRL told me not to. They laughed when I said im trusting strangers on the internet over them. It worked. Seriously, thank you guys. Cheers to the movement continuing!
I got kicked out of /r/Bitcoin Reddit chat for mentioning that people in Venezuela are using USD, Yuan and Euros as their choice of currency not BTC and that LocalBTC is more unsafe due to government wiretapping.
I am mad yet satisfied with the censorship that took place at the bitcoin reddit. There was a post talking about the lack of privacy on bitcoin by the founder of Ether. I decided to make a comment about bitcoin private thinking that people would find it interesting as it gives that privacy that bitcoin was lacking. Instead of informing people I was banned for talking about bitcoin private! When I went back to look at the comments on that post people who talked about xmr were allowed to post their comments but when I started to talk about bitcoin private no no no that was not okay. People must be truly scared of bitcoin privates potential if they feel that people like me need to be censored to keep their precious bitcoin holdings as #1 on the market cap. I would really like to here your thoughts on this and why people are so closed to new and innovative ideas.
Finally back to the original path after all of that bullshit. It feels like it’s been a decade. Only 5 years for me. Was banned from bitcoin reddit ages back. Finally I feel like I can return. Just watch T2 again last night and this felt like the right sentiment:

Some think Bitcoin is on its way out, but Alexis Ohanian — the co-founder of Reddit and a managing partner at Initialized Capital — begs to differ.
